If you need to clean your Suzannah London garments please follow the below guidelines.
Consider: Does your garment actually need dry cleaning?
It is not always essential to dry clean your garment after each wear.
This is the oldest trick in the book! Hanging your garment on a coat hanger from the washing line in the fresh air is often enough and can help preserve your garment for longer as well as being a great choice for the environment. Remember to turn your garment inside out first, as silk can fade in the bright sunshine.
Is also an effective alternative to giving your garment a re-fresh prior to wearing:
Investing in a good garment steamer is a great choice. Steaming has been used in Asia for years. The hot air kills off the bacteria, reduces allergens, eliminates odours, plumps up the fibres and smooths out creases.
Remember! The garment must be steamed a minimum of 48 hours before wearing, to ensure the garment has completely dried. As the steam cools it moistens the garment and if the garment is not fully dry, it will crease more easily.
Dry Cleaning using a specialist:
If your garment needs a full dry cleaning service, It is important that our garments are cleaned with a good reputable dry cleaning company which specialises in high-level products; silks and bridal. All of our garments require a specialist dry clean service from the dry cleaners. This is indicated by the 'P (Underlined)' symbol which is printed on the care-labels within the garments. If you wish to remove the care label for any reason please remember to keep it safe, as most dry cleaners will not accept items without the original label.
Our fabrics are of an incredibly high standard and have specialist finishings which require the best care, it is imperative you choose your cleaner carefully. Please be careful if selecting an ‘Eco’ Dry cleaning company. Although better for the environment the processing involved is sometimes not conducive to cleaning silk.
Our customers have had excellent experience with the following dry cleaners.
Wine and Oil splashes:
If you do get a mark on a dress at a wedding for example; perhaps you are splashed with red wine for instance. Please dry dab only with a clean soft cloth. Please do not add water or white wine to the stain - This may remove your 'mark' AND the colour from your garment.
If you dry dab, the dry cleaner can often remove your stain later. You can ask for a 'spot cleaning service' rather than cleaning the whole garment.
If you have badly damaged part of your dress with wine and it has not responded to spot dry cleaning. Please tell us! We can often replace a panel of your dress and rescue it. We keep as many offcuts as possible so are often able to colour match to your dress. We are committed to helping you restore your garments so you can enjoy them for years to come.
Please store your garments on a suitable hanger within its cloth garment bag. If you have bought your garment from our boutique we will provide a suitable hanger and depending on the style may pad out the neckline to help your dress keep its shape. If you prefer to use your own hanger please choose one that does not distort the shoulders or stretch or mis-shape the sleeves. We do not recommend keeping your garments on the wire coat hangers that are often provided by dry cleaners, as these can leave a deep set crease along the shoulder line if left for too long.
If you have any unanswered questions regarding the care of your garments please contact us via email or phone and we will do our absolute best to advise you.
